Let’s get serious about your business

Would you hire you?

So you’ve decided it’s time to start your business for real. You’ve been messing about on the sidelines for a few years and you’ve managed to get a few decent customers. You’ve set up your social profiles everywhere and you’re posting regularly, you’ve got your new business cards made and you’ve pounded the streets with a ton of fliers but you’re still not getting the quality customers you need. Maybe it’s time for another approach.

Be honest now! How professional does your business come across to potential clients. Would you hire you?

Impress those clients

I know I know, starting a business is unbelievably expensive and you’re always tempted to do as much as possible yourself to save a few pounds but take it from one who knows.  ( yes I made all the mistakes! Still am if I’m honest) Professionally made brochures instead of something printed on your inkjet and a great cohesive brand identity goes a long way to attracting those perfect clients.

One way of really impressing your potential clients and to show that you really mean business is with a beautifully lit, perfectly posed headshot that reflects you and your business.

Not just for actors?

A headshot you say! No that’s not for me! That’s only for actors and CEOs of major corporations. A few years ago I’d have agreed with you but nowadays your digital image has never been more prominent. Think about it. If you’re active on linked in for example your profile picture comes up every time you comment or make a post. Which reminds me, it’s time I sorted mine out! Likewise if you comment on blog posts related to your industry.  Although you might think it would be better to have your company logo as your profile many studies have shown that there’s more engagement with posts when it a picture of you. It’s the human element I suppose. We’ll listen to a person, a logo, not so much!

So what else can I use my headshot for?

Brand identity

Now here’s a biggie buzz word, brand identity!

Again it’s not just for the big corporations. Even one man band gym owners or career coaches have a brand identity these days. That headshot is what will attract your perfect customers to you. The customers that just ‘get you’. The ones that don’t quibble about the price. A good headshot will let your potential clients see what you stand for as well as what you look like. They will instantly know if you’re part of their tribe. It really will help you stand out to the right people.

Serious business!

Do you know what else your headshot will do for you? It’ll make you feel better about your business. It’ll make you feel like your business is real. When I started my business many years ago I suffered from huge imposter syndrome (still do to a greater or lesser extent). Starting to do the things that I saw other professionals do like advertising and networking helped me to realise I had a proper business and that I had to take it seriously. A headshot is another one of those things that makes you think seriously about your business.
